ACTIVATING YOUR SKY DIGITAL CARD
Once the Sky Digital receiver has been installed insert the Sky card into the slot at the front of the receiver and telephone Sky's Customer services on 08702404020. You will be asked for the serial number and version number of the receiver along with the viewing card number. To obtain these details go to the "Services" menu, then "System Setup", then "System Details", here you will find all the information required about your receiver. Your card should then be activated within one to two hours.
One important point to remember is, that a "Wakeup Signal" is sent out to all cards from time to time. If your receiver is disconected from the mains for a period of time and not in "Standby", your card may no longer function and require re-activation.
MARRYING YOUR SKY DIGITAL CARD TO A NEW RECEIVER
If for some reason you need to change your Sky receiver, you will have to call Sky's Customer Services to have your viewing card "Married" to your new receiver.

ADDING OTHER ITV1 REGIONS
Only your default ITV1 region will be listed on Sky's EPG on channel 103. The region you receive is dictated by your postal code. To watch the other regions, you must add them all manualy by doing the following:
1) Press Services on your Sky remote.
2) Press 4 - System Setup.
3) Press 4 - Add Channels.
4) Type in the correct frequency, polarisation, symbol rate and FEC and press Find channels.
5) To save, highlight the desired region(s), and press the yellow button.
6) Press Select on your remote, when complete.
Viewing other ITV1 regions
To view the other ITV1 regions, do the following:
1) Press Services.
2) Press 6 - Other Channels.
3) Choose the desired region and press Select.

DO I NEED A CARD OR SUBSCRIPTION TO GET BBC SERVICES?
No, the BBC services are no longer encrypted, this means they can be viewed on any digital satellite receiver within the reception area of the satellite. However, if you wish to watch ITV, Ch4 and five via Dsat you will still need a Sky Digibox and active viewing-card as they are still encrypted.

FREE TO AIR (FTA)
Free To Air services, are not encrypted and require no card or subscription for viewing. All of the BBC's domestic TV and radio services are FTA.

FREE TO VIEW (FTV) - ITV1- CHANNEL FOUR - FIVE
Free To View channels do not require a subscription, the channels are however encrypted and require a free2view card. Free2view card are not being issued at present, you will have to take out a Sky subscription to view ITV1, Channel Four and Five. www.free2view.tv.

HOW CAN I SEE ITV2?
ITV2 is a complementary channel to ITV1, the channel is not on the free2view cards like ITV1, Channel Four and Five. A subscription to the Sky Digital Family Pack is required to access ITV2.
ITV2 can be received free-to-air via Freeview Digital Terrestrial broadcasts in the United kingdom.

Sky Remote Control Codes for your TV
A Sky remote can control most function on about 90% of TV models.

The 3 Digit - Direct Set method
1) Turn on your TV.
2) Press tv on your Sky remote control.
3) Hold down select and the red button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
4) Key in the three digits of the first 'Direct Set' code for the manufacturer of your TV; the red light on the Sky remote control will blink twice.
5) Press tv and try the handset, using all the function buttons like power, volume and channel etc. If it works all the TV functions, then try the tv guide button.
6) If the Direct set code did not work then start again from step 1 with the next three digit code in the list for the manufacturer of your TV.
7) Press tv guide .
If you can see the TV Guide screen, the remote control setup process is complete.
 
If you can not see the TV Guide, you must now set the TV Guide function as follows:
1) Press tv on your Sky remote control.
2) Hold down select and the green button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
3) Key in the number of the channel on your TV that you use for watching satellite TV (For scart switching, this may be one of the other buttons on your remote e.g. help, i or a colour button).
4) Press select on your Sky remote control. The red light blinks twice.
The remote control setup process is complete.
 
The 4 Digit - Brand Set method
1) Turn on your TV.
2) Press TV on your Sky remote control.
3) Hold down select and the red button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice
4) Press TV on your Sky remote control again.
5) Key in the Brand Set code for your brand of TV. The light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
If the light blinks once only, re check the code for your TV and start again at step 1.
6) Press the on/off button (power-top right button on your Sky remote control).
If your TV switched off, press select . The light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
If your TV did not switch off, press TV , then press the on/off button. Repeat this (press TV , then on/off) until your TV turns off, then press select.
If the light on your Sky remote control blinks three times, your Sky digibox has checked all the possible settings for the code you used. Check that you have the right 4 digit code and start again at step 1.
7) Press TV guide .
If you see the TV Guide screen, the remote control setup process is complete.
 
If you did not see the TV Guide, you must now set the TV Guide function as follows:
1) Press tv on your Sky remote control.
2) Hold down select and the green button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
3) Key in the number of the channel on your TV that you use for watching satellite TV (For scart switching, this may be one of the other buttons on your remote e.g. help, i or a colour button).
4) Press select on your Sky remote control. The red light blinks twice. The remote control setup process is complete.

SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD
To force a software download, do the following:

1) Switch the receiver off at the mains.
2) Press and hold the Backup button on the front of the receiver (not on the remote control).
3) Keep the Backup button held and power up the receiver.
4) After about 5-10 seconds all the lights on the front display will light up.
5) Now release the backup button.
If your receiver is connected via scart lead you will see the following on screen message:
Updating System Software
Do not disconnect from mains supply or dish
This may take up to 10 minutes
After about 10 mins your receiver will switch back into standby mode.

WHAT CONNECTIONS ARE THERE ON A SKY RECEIVER?
Sky Digital receivers have the following connections:
1) Mains Input.
2) Dish Input (F-type).
3) TV SCART (composite video out, RGB out).
4) VCR SCART (composite video in/out, RGB loop-through in).
5) Telephone line (RJ11).
6) Aerial in, RF out 1, RF out 2, Audio out (2 phonos).
7) RS-232 (disabled).
8) Digital interface for which nothing is currently available.
Sony receivers and Sky+ also have a digital output, which carries sound data only, the Sky+ model supports DD 5.1.
Grundig model /2 and 3000 series boxes have an S-Video mini-DIN output plug, as does Sky+.

WHAT IS THE DEFAULT TRANSPONDER?
When a Sky digital receiver is first switched on it will look for the "Default Transponder".
This is transponder 4, frequency 11.778 Vertical polarisation, Symbol Rate 27.5. FEC 2/3.
This is where Sky's Electronic Programme Guide or EPG is situated.

WHAT IS VIDEOGUARD?
NDS Videoguard is the Conditional Access System (CAS), used by Sky Digital for encrypting channels on the Sky Digital platform. The Videoguard encryption system is "embedded", built in to Sky receivers, there are at present, no Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) available for the Videoguard system used by Sky Digital.
